WAY Too Soon!!!

We are pretty open about bodies and body parts; the kids and I. I want/wanted to have them grow up being comfortable with what things are and having the knowledge they needed to combat information learned at school, etc, and just being comfortable talking about things. We haven't gotten into much of the birds and bees stuff yet. I knew that with Olivia I would need to start soon. She's at a good age for that, and I know how a lot of the kids in our district are, and how "mature" or should I say knowledgable many are in that area at a very young age. It saddens me, and some of what I've heard sickens me, so I wanted to make sure Olivia had good information at a young age.

Well, I got beat out by the playground.

Yesterday Olivia asked what sex was.

Two kids on the playground were talking about Titanic and one asked what they were doing in the car. Do you remember that scene? Steamy windows, etc etc etc. Of course someone knew and said they were having sex. Great. So she asked me. I am glad she asked. Of course she has no idea what she asked. :)

I will be talking to her soon. For now I said it was something that adults do when they are married and that I would talk to her more about it when we had more time. A car ride isn't very conducive to a heart to heart. And luckily the boys weren't in the car because Braeden would've been all over that! Goodness!

Any suggestions???

The library has great books that are geared for "the talk" with kids.

You are on the right track with being open and honest with your children. Sometimes when kids ask questions, we need to know what they are really asking. I would be curious as to what the kids on the playground said sex was. Based on how detailed that info was, then I would just give the truth in just that same amount. Fun times. LOL

Kids usually just need the amount of information they can process at certain ages; that is why i rely on the experts and use books to explain "sex" to them, Have fun!

What you should know about HIV

-HIV can NOT be spread through casual/household contact. HIV is not spread through hugging, kissing, shaking hands, sharing toys, sneezing, coughing, sharing food, sharing drinks, bathing, swimming or any other casual way. It has been proven that HIV and AIDS can only be spread through sexual contact, birth, breastfeeding and blood to blood contact (such as sharing needles). - HIV is now considered a chronic but manageable disease. With treatment, people who are HIV+ can live indefinitely without developing AIDS and can live long and full lives. - People who are HIV+ deserve to be treated with love, respect, support and acceptance as all people do. Additional information on transmission of HIV can be found on the Center for Disease Control website: http://www.cdc.gov/hiv/resources

Little Did I Know

Little did I know that the road would be so rocky
Little did I know that the trip would take so long
Little did I know that my heart could hurt so much
Little did I know that God is never wrong

Little did I know that love could be so powerful
Little did I know that a dream so far could go
Little did I know that God would place the right ones
Little did I know that my heart, so large, could grow

Little did I know that a dream has it’s own timing
Little did I know that this day would finally come
Little did I know that four souls would be sent to guide me
Little did I know that they would choose to call me mom

But God knew all along and He had a plan to follow
God knew all along that my dream would soon come true
God knew all along that we five should be together
God knew all along that I’d share it all with you
