Santa

If you have kids, and if they believe in Santa, you have GOT to check this out!!!

Portable North Pole

This is so very cool! A friend linked me to it today and I "made" a video for Olivia, she was in shock, it was so funny! You answer questions about your child including their name, age, what they've worked on this year, what they are asking for for Christmas, include a photo, etc and then a video of Santa "talking" to your child is emailed or available for you to play for them. It is awesome!!!

Whew, Long Day

Olivia did great today!

We got up at 4am, no problem. Made it to the hospital in an hour with plenty of time to spare before her EEG appt at 8. Olivia got in shortly after 8 for her EEG. The hardest part both times she's had this done has been when they ask her to blow a pinwheel for 3 min. They want to see how the lack of oxygen to her brain affects it. After a min, it's hard to keep her going, but she did it!

As they were putting on the sensors she asked if I had my camera. I usually do now with the new one. It's so small I just carry it in my purse. So she asked if I'd take some pictures so she could see what she looked like. She was so funny!

We were done a about 9:40 and went to the other side of the large waiting area to let them know we were done with the EEG so Olivia could get in to her HIV clinic appt. I asked the receptionist if they had checked us in to both appts as I wasn't sure. It looked like she checked the computer, and then asked me to knock on the door and let a nurse know we were finished on the other side and ready. I did and sat to wait. An HOUR later (Extremely unusual for them) I went and knocked again, telling another nurse the same thing. She came out right after and said that we weren't checked in! So we had to check in on that side, and the person said, "Do you know your appt was at 10?"
Ummmm... yes! I was holding back tears like you wouldn't believe. I was frustrated, but more than anything I was extremely tired, as I knew Olivia was as well. And we were hungry.
Finally another HOUR later, and with our social worker now having spoken to us and hearing how they had made a mistake, they got us in to a makeshift room as there were no rooms still available. They checked her out and then gave us vouchers for the cafeteria due to our wait, so nice of them! We made our way to the lab for her blood draw, and finally were on our way out at 1pm!!! Wow. 6 hours at the hospital! :(
We then headed to EAT, we were so hungry! :) And while we were "up north" we went to two thrift shops. I have a new giveaway I will try to post soon!!! We got GREAT deals today!!! :) And we should hear the EEG results in 5-7 days. Hopefully nothing new, just checking on her status.

Girlie Update

Some of you may remember, and to some of you this is unknown, but "Girlie" was a little girl who came to live with us in August of 2007. It was supposed to be for a couple days. She was 23 months old. And had been through more in those 23 months than I could fathom. She lived with us for 11 months.

When she came, she spoke like a sailor, told us to shut up, bit like crazy, was asked to leave two day cares, had a hard hard time in any nursery (YMCA, church, etc), would talk, cry and scream to keep from going to sleep, had had open heart surgery while very young, had had a broken leg she still had trouble walking on, and through it all learned to laugh, learned to smile, learned to trust, but still had a hard time. We love/loved her like crazy. BUT, feeling God is calling more children to us, knowing she needed so very much time, attention, and much that I couldn't give her, and feeling she was meant to be a part of someone else's forever family, I let my agency know that I wanted them to look for a forever family for her.

They did not do what they should to find a family able and willing to work with what Girlie needed. Through this time, my friend J felt called more and more to be her forever family. She had a four year old foster daughter with similar issues heading toward adoption, and a two year old foster daughter who was going home on July 1st. I had talked to them in May and asked that she be allowed to come with us to FL in June, a family chosen by the time we were back, leaving a week to do visits, and then moving in July 1st. It seemed to be meant to be.

Then came July 1st. The parents of J's 2 year old showed up for court to get her back that day and failed a drug test. Back to square one and now J was in a quandry for what to do.

The first couple weeks were just he** to say the least. All three have attachment issues, pretty major ones. And for a while J thought of deciding not to "keep" Girlie. I was sick about it. That's exactly what I had not wanted for her. And J knew what she was getting into. It was all the same stuff she did with us. BUT, she worked through it, got them into day care once school began which helped to get a "break" somewhat during the day, and Girlie is doing AMAZING!!! She's even in preschool and has only had two bus issues, that's it! I'm so proud and excited! She still has her days, don't get me wrong, but they are all doing so very well. AND, all three are going to termination and J will be adopting all three of them. Wow! God is good. :) And we still get to see and spend time with Girlie. So great. Especially for Liam. He adores her! I only have to say her name and he is grinning ear to ear. So cute! Who knows, maybe one day... :)

4 AM Wake Up Call

I need to go to sleep. Tomorrow is Olivia's next 3 month doctor appointment. She is also getting her updated EEG for the seizures which began last year around this time. And that is sleep-deprived. Which means I have to get her up at 4am so that she is tired for her 8am appt. Yuck! I figure I'll give her a shower and have her watch a movie until I get myself ready. Then I'll get the boys up and we'll be leaving around 5:55 to drop them off at 6 and hit the road for the hospital.

And I was planning on catching up on email, Facebook, and blogs and then hitting the hay. But then I saw the commercial for tonight's Hallmark movie - I had forgotten all about it. I want to watch it! It's about a true story of a teacher with Tourette's Syndrome and looks good. Especially as a special ed teacher. I'm hooked now. It'll be a while before I get to sleep! :) Oh well, Olivia and I will have a great day tomorrow! :)

What you should know about HIV

-HIV can NOT be spread through casual/household contact. HIV is not spread through hugging, kissing, shaking hands, sharing toys, sneezing, coughing, sharing food, sharing drinks, bathing, swimming or any other casual way. It has been proven that HIV and AIDS can only be spread through sexual contact, birth, breastfeeding and blood to blood contact (such as sharing needles). - HIV is now considered a chronic but manageable disease. With treatment, people who are HIV+ can live indefinitely without developing AIDS and can live long and full lives. - People who are HIV+ deserve to be treated with love, respect, support and acceptance as all people do. Little Did I Know

Little did I know that the road would be so rocky
Little did I know that the trip would take so long
Little did I know that my heart could hurt so much
Little did I know that God is never wrong

Little did I know that love could be so powerful
Little did I know that a dream so far could go
Little did I know that God would place the right ones
Little did I know that my heart, so large, could grow

Little did I know that a dream has it’s own timing
Little did I know that this day would finally come
Little did I know that four souls would be sent to guide me
Little did I know that they would choose to call me mom

But God knew all along and He had a plan to follow
God knew all along that my dream would soon come true
God knew all along that we five should be together
God knew all along that I’d share it all with you
